Funds for Energy-Efficient Homes

July 03, 2022 by Renz Andrew

Introduction

A home that is energy efficient can now be rewarding. People who seek to improve the energy efficiency of their homes will be given funding by the government, according to a new law established by the UK government. You will be eligible for the fund if you make any changes to your current home that help you save money on energy.

About the fund

The popular scheme, known as the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF), is first accessible for homeowners in England and Wales. If you just want to go for the following energy-saving installations, funds will be allocated:

- Cavity wall, floor, roof, attic, solid wall insulation

- Gas boilers with condensing technology

- Replacing single-paned windows with double-paned or triple-paned windows; supplementary glazing

- Wastewater heat recovery systems or storage heaters

- Energy-efficient exterior door replacements

- Replacement of the warm unit

The GDHIF program offers different amounts depending on the type of installation. The amount of money that will be granted will range from £100 to £30 million.

How to claim?

To apply for the fund, you must first be eligible. You must own a residential property in England or Wales, have a Green Deal Advice Report or an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that is less than two years old, and have the work done by a GDHIF licensed service contractor.

You can acquire an EPC and agree on a quote from a GDHIF registered installation company once you match these conditions. You can apply for a Home Improvement Fund Voucher before beginning the installation process. Once the work is done, your Green Deal installer will fill out the rest of the voucher, including all of the installation details. Once all of the verifications have been completed, you will receive the funds.

The program aims to save customers money on their energy costs while also fostering a better environment. More regions will be covered under the initiative in the near future, allowing everyone to profit from this innovative approach to promoting a clean and green environment.

The fact that Insulation4less.co.uk is offering a 10% discount on our main brands like Celotex PL4000, TB4000, GA4000, XR4000 range, Kingspan Kooltherm range, Warmline range, and many more with a cash discount off selected items makes the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) even more interesting. You now have even more reasons to get your home properly insulated.

How much money can I save if I insulate my loft properly?

loft insultaion

Loft insulation should be installed in every home. Why? Because heat rises, the majority of your home's heat loss will occur through the ceiling, attic, or roof. Floor and wall insulation are necessary, but attic insulation is critical, especially in the United Kingdom. Quality is also important, therefore we recommend using premium loft insulation from companies like Knauf Earthwool and Isover Spacesaver.

So, how much money can you save if your loft is properly insulated?

The Energy Saving Trust provided us with the following figures:

Loft Insulation (up to 270mm) Detached Semi Detached Terraced Bungalow Bungalow

Heating Bill Savings £240 £140 £135 £200

Average Installation Cost £395 £300 £285 £375

Remember that these are average savings and prices, and you should speak with your local installer for a more precise picture. However, it goes without saying that your loft insulation investment should pay for itself within two years.

Most lofts are simple to insulate and can be done in a single day. If you want to convert your attic into a room, you'll need to insulate both the roof and the attic floor. If you have a flat roof or any other roof with damp difficulties, you should hire a professional to fix it, and we recommend starting your search at the National Insulation Association (NIA).

Is it worthwhile to insulate your loft? Absolutely - not only will you recoup your investment in two years (and any money saved beyond that will remain in your pocket), but consider how much more pleasant and warm your home will be. Consider how much of a difference it will make to the environment if you use less energy.
